I discovered yoga via a dusty book I bought at a yard sale when I was 14. I never heard of yoga or saw it before but spent my freshman year of high school teaching myself poses and doing my version of meditating. I became more interested in teaching spinning, distance running, lifting weights and playing roller derby and I didn't find yoga again until a sports injury forced me to take better care of my body. At first, I found myself too distracted to appreciate it fully and felt my mind being pulled in one hundred directions every time I got near my mat. I figured yoga just wasn't for me until I stumbled into a Power Yoga class in Charleston, SC a few years ago. Hanging out at a yoga studio seemed much more appealing than the horrible rush hour traffic that I was sitting in daily. The physical challenge of yoga was what initially attracted me. It has given me so much more. It's become a space I didn't know I needed where I could quiet my ever busy mind, connect to my inner thoughts and ease the stress I used to carry around with me. It's made me more aware and appreciative of the current moment and my mat has become somewhere I can go when I need a heart-lift. Wanting to use yoga with my elementary class, I took a children's yoga training through Childlight and Kidding Around Yoga. I had so much fun teaching after-school yoga and I was craving more. I also wanted to refine and develop my own practice and became certified through South Hills Power Yoga’s 200 hour teacher training program. I love music and trying new poses (and laughing when they don't go well!) and I feel that yoga should be something that makes you smile.
I have been teaching PiYo LIVE for nearly two years. I'm a proud Pittsburgh native, backyard chicken-mama, and decade-long vegetarian.
I like to remind my students that our PiYo class is never a competition. We meet on the mat every week and start where we are as individuals that day. Some days are better than others, and that’s OK. There were times I would find myself in a yoga studio feeling like because I couldn’t do a headstand or other advanced yoga poses that I wasn’t good enough to be in that class. When I started teaching, I decided that it would be my priority to ensure that each and every student, regardless of age or athletic ability, would leave my class feeling stronger and more confident than when they entered.
I will be offering a Cardio Strength class starting in 2019, that will involve light weights, HIIT and some cardio. I hope to see you on the mat!
Mel teaches our PiYo class as well as a weights/HIIT class, Cardio Strength! Come sweat it out with her during her class times!
I'm originally from Wisconsin. Yes, I love the Packers! ...and cheese! ;) I moved to PA in 2015 and fell in love with it! My husband is a resident in Orthopedic Surgery through UPMC. We have two girls, Rowyn -10 and Ember -3. I was a teacher for 7 years before we moved here. I currently stay home with my little and teach this rockin' class. I became certified in POUND in January 2018 and love rocking out!
POUND just spoke to me. It woke up that inner rock star that's always been there and gave me the confidence to be myself. It's a stress relief and a great outlet for self expression. I love letting loose in a class and reaping the benefits of an awesome workout!
Heather teaches our POUND Rockout Workout class as well as Generation POUND; a children's version! She also offers Generation POUND camps during the summer months!

Amy struggled most of her life with body image issues. She always chased the latest exercise and diets, which only led to a never ending battle with the scale and its number deciding how she felt about herself. The first time she Sarah's Buti Yoga class, she knew that it was different. It wasn't about the exercise or the weight or the scale -- but instead about letting go of all the hurt, shame, and feelings of unworthiness. Each class was not punishment, but instead therapy. She was encouraged by her amazing friend Sarah to become certified. They traveled to Washington D.C. to do just that and at nearly 40 years old it was the most physically and emotionally challenging experience of her life. Amy could not wait to bring this experience to the students in her classes. Being an empath allows her to tune in to what her students are feeling and needing so she can guide the class depending upon the energy in the room. Buti Yoga is never about competition, but instead letting go of our ego for an hour and feeling the freedom that it brings. Because she believes so strongly in the practice of yoga, connecting to her students, energy work, and the importance of being a lifelong learner, Amy will begin her 200 HR-YTT journey in April 2019. Amy is a mom to the amazing Lily Grace who is 9 years old, but is an old soul who believes strongly in girl power. Avery Duke is her wild, brilliant, and hilarious 2 year old son. She currently teaches 2nd grade and has been teaching in public schools for the past 18 years. Her dream is to write a book sharing her stories.
